Saigon, officially called Ho Chi Minh, is less than 400 years old, a young town! Compared to the ancient cities in North and Central Vietnam, Saigon is more vibrant and dynamic, and it still possesses the spirit of the explorers who moved from the traditional provinces to the South. Saigon during the XVIII-XIX centuries was just a land of swampy forests and wildlife, a center of pirates and migrants. During the XX century, Saigon suffered the two fiercest wars of Indochina. Yet, the city has overcome and remains Vietnam’s most energetic and beautiful city.
